Dr. Mary Anne Bowen
Veterinarian
Dr. Mary Anne Bowen’s love of animals has been life-long and she has been fortunate enough to advocate for them in two careers, first in policy and lawmaking and now in the practice of veterinary medicine.
She graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Ethics and, after several years of involvement with animal welfare causes both in the United States and abroad, resolved that she wanted to devote her life to medicine. She attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed her clinical training at the University of Florida. Dr. Bowen has completed additional training in Pain Management and Palliative Care, as well as Fear Free Medicine, and is currently pursuing certification in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture through CuraCore.
Dr. Bowen cherishes the relationships she cultivates with her patients and their families and considers it a privilege to help navigate both the medical and emotional challenges that often accompany illness. She has a special interest in pain management, chronic disease care, hospice and palliative medicine, and helping families care for pets living with arthritis, cancer, and other long-term conditions. Her greatest professional joy, however, comes from caring for geriatric patients and finding meaningful ways—often through simple, thoughtful interventions—to improve comfort, mobility, and quality of life.
In 2026, Dr. Bowen founded The Gentle Vet, a practice built around the belief that veterinary medicine should be compassionate, relationship-centered, and tailored to the individual needs of each patient and family. Her goal is to create a calm, welcoming environment where pets receive exceptional medical care while families feel supported, heard, and empowered.
Outside of private practice, Dr. Bowen serves as the Orlando Team Lead for Project Street Vet, helping bring veterinary care, preventive medicine, and essential supplies to pets belonging to individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness throughout Central Florida. This work reflects her longstanding belief that the human-animal bond deserves protection regardless of circumstance and has become one of the most meaningful parts of her professional life.
She lives in Winter Park with her husband, their son Wolfie, and a family of young-at-heart rescue dogs.
